  • Legal standards for use of force and deadly force in D.C

  • Explanation of prohibited areas (schools, federal buildings, public gatherings, etc.)

Firearm Safety & Responsible Ownership

  • Four universal safety rules

  • Safe storage and transportation of firearms

  • Child Access Prevention laws

  • Suicide prevention and responsible access management

Handgun Operation & Maintenance

Types of handguns and their components

  1. Ammunition types and ballistics basics

  2. Safe loading, unloading, and clearing malfunctions

  3. Routine cleaning and preventive maintenance

Situational Awareness & Conflict Avoidance

  • Avoiding confrontation and recognizing threats

  • De-escalation strategies

  • Concealed carry mindset and daily carry considerations

  • Psychological and emotional aspects of defensive firearm use

Range Qualification & Practical Demonstration

  • Live-fire training: safety and technique drills

  • Qualification course of fire (must pass MPD standards)

  • Evaluation of accuracy, safe handling, and firearm control

  • Issuance of training certificate for MPD application
