The Maryland Wear and Carry Permit Course, also known as the Maryland Concealed Carry (CCW) Course, is a mandatory 16-hour training program for individuals who want to carry a firearm on their person. This permit allows for the legal concealed carry of a handgun in Maryland. Introduction & Legal Overview

  • Review of Maryland and federal firearm laws, including:

  • Use of force and self-defense laws

  • Prohibited areas (e.g., schools, government buildings)

  • Transportation and storage laws

Firearm Safety & Handling

  • Fundamental firearm safety rules

  • Safe loading, unloading, and storage

  • Identifying different firearm types and their components

  • Dry-fire practice and handling drills

Conflict De-escalation & Situational Awareness

  • Strategies for avoiding confrontation

  • Reading and responding to potential threats

  • Verbal de-escalation techniques

  • Legal and moral responsibility of carrying a firearm

Basic Shooting Fundamentals

  • Proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control

  • Live fire drills on the range

  • Malfunction identification and clearance

  • Practice under instructor supervision

MD Qualification Course of Fire

  • Shooting qualification: 25 rounds at varying distances

  • Must demonstrate accuracy and safe handling

  • Evaluated by a certified instructor

Final Review

  • Review of all course material

  • Q&A session

  • A certificate of completion is issued upon passing
